With an undeniable early 2000s vibe, I’ll Take The Cake bridges pop’s catchiness and succinct indie-rock guitars. It’s as if nostalgia resonates to remind us of past, carefree times. But above all, the optimistic sound of Hamburg artist Solveig Heim, aka Veigh Malow, emphasises the song’s message.

„It’s about preserving the childlike joy of trying things out, failing and winning and going your own way—even if it doesn’t correspond to what others expect,“ Veigh Malow explains.

Today, Negative White hosts the exclusive premiere of I’ll Take The Cake alongside a colourful music video, revealing Veigh Malow’s passion for fashion and design.

I’ll Take The Cake embraces a life-affirming message. Go with the flow; take the entire cake, not just the tiny piece offered to you. And so, the song sprawls energy and a can-do attitude, jumping at you with a pop-punkish cheekiness and saying: Give it a try at least.

I just fell down on the wrong side
Pinnacle - there is no right, right?
Tall tales told to tell, there’s just one way around
But I got better plans

However, I’ll Take The Cake never tries to push you in its direction; it doesn’t force its message upon you but convinces you with its confidence. The authenticity and joy of Veigh Malow are palpable—and highly addictive.

With I’ll Take The Cake, Veigh Malow also announces her third EP, Swimming is Lame, after Sisyphus (2023) and Why (2024).
